Susan's Trying Term is the seventh book in the series and sees ghastly Gabrielle Gascoigne moving to St. Ronan's School, much to the despair of Susan, Tessa and Midge. With Gabrielle around, there are many harrowing moments, but there are some pleasant scenes for Miss Lyle too, the happiest being when she discovers that she has made the hockey team.
